The Mercantia Festival
Mercantia, the International Festival of Street Theater, takes place in Certaldo, a medieval town between Florence and Siena, every year in July.
They are the more than 100 stage performances every issue, from traditional street theater (jugglers, puppeteers, fire-eaters, storytellers, stilt walkers, mimes, etc. ..) and the puppet theater, art circus, cabaret, dance and poetry from bands orchestras, from contemporary art installations to the realization of handmade creations.
Mercantia is the perfect mix of old and contemporary, that appeals to the young and the less young, Italians but also many foreigners, and who likes to involve everyone from the ladies at the child.
Framing each performance, a unique scene, castles, hidden gardens, towers, small squares and alleys, the medieval village of Certaldo Alto is illuminated by floodlights and torches, fireworks and the skill of the artists.
The spectators every year about 50,000, including those who choose to venture into the town up and soak in the atmosphere of the hottest festivals, and those who decide to stay in the lower part of town, including craft markets and small shows of improvisation.
The Mercantia Festival takes place every year, in July, for five consecutive nights, from 18:00 until late at night.
Mercantia This year will be the 29th edition and will open the show on July 13 to end the shows Sunday, July 17.
The theme of the 2016 Festival will Mercantia "The days of plenty", a theme that goes back to ancient times but who still wants to be used to demonstrate the quantity and quality of exhibitions and performances happening.
